Corktown

Corktown – proudly known as the “Oldest Neighborhood in Detroit” – is one of the E-Zone’s greatest revitalization success stories. While Corktown took a hard hit during difficult economic times, its unique history and architecture attracted many people back to the area. Many homes in the neighborhood have Victorian influence – Italianate, Gothic, and Queen Anne are the most prominent styles. While most of Detroit’s central neighborhoods are architecturally significant, this particular style can only be found in Corktown and the surrounding area. Eventually, the neighborhood was placed on the National Register of Historic Places and efforts were made to restore the community to its original condition. Today, it remains to be a beautiful place to live.
